Complete list of Blogger account limits

Blogger is a free blogging service hosted by Google. Here is some information about the limits a Blogger account has. I’ve put them into a list for your reference. I’m sure this information will come in handy at some point in your blogging future. So you might want to bookmark this post, just in case.

blogger limits 1

Account limits

  • Number of blogs: 100 per account.
  • Profile "About Me" info length: 1,200 characters.
  • Profile Interests and Favorites: 2,000 characters in each field.
  • Number of blogs to follow: 300 blogs per account.
  • Image size (dimension)
    • Image uploaded via post editor: 1600px wide or high. Larger images can be uploaded but it will be scaled down to 1600px while preserving the aspect ratio
    • Image (for background) uploaded via Template > Customize > Background: No limit
  • Image filesize (byte)
    • Image uploaded via post editor: 8MB
    • Image (for background) uploaded via Template > Customize > Background: 300kB
    • Uploaded via Blogger Mobile 250KB
  • Capacity of image and video hosting (on Blogger partner Picasa Web Albums):
    • Photos up to 2048 x 2048 pixels and videos up to 15 minutes: No limit and free
    • Larger photos and videos: 1024MB free. Need to buy for more storage.
  • Bandwidth of image hosting: No limit

Blog limits

  • Length of blog title: 90 characters.
  • Length of subdomain name (as in http://SUBDOMAIN.blogspot.com): 37 characters.
  • Length of blog description: 500 characters.
  • Number of members/authors: 100 member invitations per blog.
  • Number of readers (for a private blog): 100 per blog.
  • Number of posts: No limit.
  • Number of posts displayed on multiple-post pages (homepage, archive etc.):
    Blogger will attempt to display the number of posts as set in Settings > Posts and Comments > Show At Most provided the posts’ file size does not exceed the Blogger auto-pagination cap of 1MB.
    Bigger posts may cause fewer number of posts to be displayed.
  • Number of static pages: 20 per blog (updated Mar 2012).
  • Number of labels: 5000 unique labels per blog.

Post limits

  • Length of individual post: No limit.
  • Size of individual post: No limit, but very large posts may run you up against the multiple-post page size limit (see above).
  • Number of labels: 20 unique labels per post. All labels combined must not exceed 200 characters per post (thanks to Zipote Craz).
  • Number of comments: No limit.
  • Length of post filename: 39 characters (auto-generated from post title, truncated to length).

Other limits

  • Comment length: 4,096 characters per comment.

I hope you find the information useful. If you know a limit that’s not in the list, please share them in the comments.

Enjoy!

How many posts in a blog per account? I just want to know :D

Greenlava March 8, 2011 at 3:40 PM

@Selina
Stated under "Blog limits" heading above.

sarahworldcook March 9, 2011 at 2:03 AM

So I am struggling with if it is worth buying my own domain through blogger- the only drawback to keeping the current blogger name on my blog seems to be 2 things- my name is a little long and not just what I am (blogspot.com added to it), and there is the limit for the number of readers- only 100!!! I'm not near that yet, but I hear people saying to switch early rather than later. So if I switch, will my older posts stay on the old blog website with a link- will that be a problem? Maybe this would be something for a blog post to discuss- or you can let me know if you already covered it. I'm not looking forward to moving blog posts and don't want to disrupt things too much. Thanks for your helpful posts.

Good Filipino March 9, 2011 at 11:52 AM

many thanks for this info... now I know!!!

Greenlava March 9, 2011 at 1:02 PM

@sarahworldcook
I just want to make it clear that the number of readers is applicable only to PRIVATE blogs. By default your blog is set to Public, which means everyone can read it -unlimited readers. If you choose to private your blog, the max number of readers will stay at 100 even after you switch to custom domain.
Once the domain changed, all your old posts will be transferred to new domain automatically and seamlessly. All done behind the scene by Blogger.

Eurokody March 28, 2011 at 5:09 PM

That's important informations. I have been looking what is number of blogs per google account. Thanks ! (100 is a lot of, but how does it look in SEO if you going to link all blogs from 1 account :> )

Greenlava March 29, 2011 at 10:38 AM

@Eurokody
I don't think there is a problem from SEO point of view. The only page that contains the 100 links is your Blogger profile page (and not your blogs) and furthermore they are all nofollowed.

Kate March 29, 2011 at 5:14 PM

thanks for the useful tips for blogging.

AsUsual May 7, 2011 at 4:31 PM

Let me keep a doubt on NO LIMIT of Post Length and Post Size as i came across twice trying to post a REALLY BIG text (about 70 pages in pdf).

Blogger was unable to save even the draft.

Rob Holecko May 21, 2011 at 10:40 AM

I am trying to get it to display certain amount of labelled posts (by clicking on a link) -- I put ?max-results=100 at the end of the link but it only shows 31 before having a link for "older posts" (without the ?max-results it only displays 20). Know any other way to force it to display all of the labelled posts on one page?

Greenlava May 22, 2011 at 10:31 AM

@Rob Holecko
That must've been caused by Blogger auto pagination.
You can't force Blogger to show all any more, not since they started auto pagination.
Having said that, you can still increase the post count (to a certain extent) by applying Blogger "read more" to your posts.

Greenlava June 7, 2011 at 1:20 PM

@Sarah
I'm sure the info is outdated.

Greenlava November 14, 2011 at 10:54 AM

@pinoy
2000 was the previous limit. It was increased to 5000 per blog in 2009.

how much page limit??????

Zipote Craz August 22, 2012 at 12:42 AM

the 200 characters per label limit you mention seems confusing since it looks as if you can have 20 labels x 200 characters, which is not the case. All labels combined must not exceed 200 characters per post. This is what I get all the time as error, so I know this limit.

Greenlava August 25, 2012 at 8:48 AM

@Zipote Craz
Thanks for correcting that.

Taimoor October 22, 2012 at 4:26 AM

Unique and helpful information. I was checking about the number of blogs per account. And got a lot of info here. Thank you! :)

Falko December 30, 2012 at 3:11 AM

What is the limit of characters of post titles or wordings of a blog with no title shown expanded in the blog archive? It seems to be about 50 (including spaces).
Can the limit be decreased to let's say 20 characters?

Greenlava January 4, 2013 at 12:48 AM

@Falko
I'm not really sure what you are referring to, but whatever it is it's usually unchangeable.
