5 Reasons You'll Probably Quit Blogging Within The Next 3 Months

This is a guest post by Casey Dennison.

The level of dedication and willpower it takes to write a steady stream of content on a weekly (sometimes daily) basis is not something the majority of "newbie" bloggers possess.

It's not unusual for someone to rush in full of enthusiasm and ready to rock-n-roll, only to call it quits after several months from what is known as "blogging burnout".

There are many things that can lead to a blogger getting burned out, like losing interest in the topic you've chosen to blog about, so in this post I'll be covering 5 reasons you'll probably quit blogging within the next 3 months (or sooner).

quit blogging

Reason #1 - You're motivated by money

Everyone loves money... in fact, money is necessary to cover living expenses and to do the things in life that we enjoy. But if "money" is the only thing motivating you to blog in the first place, you're going to have a very hard time pushing forward. I know this all too well... because I started my first blog in the "make money online" niche. And what do you think happened? I'll tell you this much: I certainly didn't make any money.

Reason #2 - You've set your expectations too high

We all want to be the best at everything we do, I know, but when has someone actually been the "best" at everything they did? Never. I'll admit, it does require a LOT of ongoing work to grow your blog to a level of notable success, but you can't be the best at everything you do; all you can do is "do your best". Setting your expectations too high will only end up disappointing you.

Reason #3 - You write 7 days a week

Every established blog you look up to is a content powerhouse. They have content dating back several years or more, and people as well as search engines return daily to consume that content. Why? Because people & search engines feed off the awesome content those blogs produce. Without a consistent stream of fresh content your blog will die, but if you're trying to write 7 days out of the week you might die (only joking :)). In all seriousness, though, blogging everyday, you're more likely to burn out.

Reason #4 - You're not passionate enough

Before I started blogging I would always hear the phrase "you need to write about things you are passionate about". As I mentioned earlier, I first started blogging about making money online which, to be totally honest, wasn't something I was very passionate about. I was in love with the idea of making money, so it wasn't exactly what you would call a "passion". If you're writing about topics you have little interest in I can guarantee that, in 3 months or less, you'll be done.

Reason #5 - You've become a victim of "analysis paralysis"

We've all fell victim to analysis paralysis, whether we knew it or not, it just happens. It's natural for someone just starting out to want to over-analyze everything in an attempt to learn all the bits and pieces, but this is bad... real bad! Once you're stuck over-analyzing something, this can go on for weeks often months at a time and you'll quickly burn out; It's best just to learn enough to get started, then take immediate action.

Conclusion

There are definitely many more reasons someone starting a new blog might throw in the towel before actually seeing any real results, but these are 5 that I've personally dealt with myself.

Do you feel as if you can no longer continue writing for your blog? Is it becoming more and more difficult for you to keep pushing "Publish"?

If so, leave your comments below.

Like all great artists we sometimes suffer from blogger's block.

For me, the reason I quit blogging was because I didn't have enough time time to write good content for my posts due to school and other stuff. Although honestly, some of the reasons above also apply to me..

I have three blogs and one YouTube channel (my niece puts up my raps) with three very different goals for each. One is about theology, one is about my teaching of classes for DUI offenders, and one is about my husband's Alzheimer's. When I started posting the last one on Pinterest I got a lot of hits.

I will say, however, that I do wish some friends and family would read my blog about my husband's Alzheimer's. They want the phone calls and the email instead and both of them demand time.

I started my website as a blog four years ago and I've tried to write regularly. My motivation is simply that I must continue what I started, and there is a business need there as well. I doubt whether there is any more than half a dozen people who ever read my posts, but I can't stop the process because it does keep me focused on what it is that I am aiming to achieve in the long run with my business. If I stop blogging that will mean that I've given up on my business ambitions.

Setting expectations too high might be my downfall! Was expecting 20 views a day too much to ask? Well, I'm not quitting because the other four reasons do not apply.

Considered good article topic. This article led me to wonder myself why I have not written my blog since August! I believe that when the subject of the blog becomes uninteresting sure you enter unemployment.

very good article. Very true. Unfortunately my passion was not into the car niche and there went my website.

This point of view won't work if you don't put in the time and effort to making your site a real brand to you. If you are good at something and are able to contribute to the online community then you shouldn't have problems, but when you give up cause you wrote something quick and expected exponential results, your gonna have to try harder than that.

When i have started blogging, only i know is that make blog and earn money from Google Ads. But after 1 or 2 year, i was bored of it, doing same thing again and again then i realized, if i will choose a topic in which i have interest then problem will be solved. That day i started a blog in which i got my interest, since then i am working on it and it is doing well. Point is, if you are doing it only for money then after sometime you got stuck but if you do it for spreading knowledge or for sharing your views/idea or experience with the world then you will last for long.

Good real reasons you have shared but I will never quit.

Yeah, you are absolutely right! Money, high requirements for article writing, analysis, running out of ideas are those key points that can really make me quit blogging. But despite these things I still love blogging as it makes more well-educates, increase my skills of copywriter and extend my background knowledge.

[ Smiles ] I don't think I am going to quit blogging anytime soon. I have been blogging for years I have two blogs; one on WordPress and the other that I recently started on Google Blogger.

I blog merely for the fun of it.

I'm blogging since 2008 and have a couple of blogs now. The whole first year of it was all about just learning new things about creating an admirable blog where people respect and appreciate my work, I actually didn't know that I can make money out of my blog until I stumbled upon BloggerSentral and learnt how can I make money from my blog. Thanks BS, keep it up.
