It's Notepad++ all the way for me for many years now regardless of the language/technology (except when I am forced use IDEs like Eclipse or VS .NET)

Notepad++ has always been an old reliable for me. Simple, easy to use and lots of features that make things a lot faster. Nice list of editors for any coder.

I also use Notepad++ since it is free and the most basic.. if you already used it in long time you'll be able to maximize its usefulness even it is free.
