How to add a Pinterest Follow button
Since we published How to add Pinterest Pin It button/counter to Blogger (which is by the way the only Pin It counter that works on Blogger), several readers contacted us and asked for yet another button -a Pinterest Follow button.
Following using this button is a two-step process. Clicking the button first takes readers to your profile page where all your boards are displayed. From there, they can then choose to follow each board individually or choose to Follow All boards at once by clicking the respective buttons.
Here we go,
I) Button code
Below are a list of available buttons provided by Pinterest on their website.
II) Adding code to blog
- Adding to Blogger
- Go to Layout > Add A Gadget and select HTML/Javascript.
- Copy a code above and paste it inside the content box.
- Replace “USERNAME” with your Pinterest username.
- Save.
- Adding to WordPress
- Go to Dashboard > Appearance > Widgets > Available Widgets.
- Drag Text widget into a sidebar.
- Paste in the code.
- Replace “USERNAME” with your Pinterest username.
- Save.
Enjoy!

Great tutorial. It seemed so simple, thanks to your very detailed tutorial. However, about pinterest. I never actually had an account. I've been seeing a lot of people using. I might give it a try and pin it to my blog too.

What if I want Pinterest Follower button with counter? If this is possible then please tell us how?
@Rahul Dixit
I'm afraid that's not possible at this time.
I am just starting my blog and tried to follow these steps but when you hit the follow button it keeps taking me to someone else's pinterest page. Help! I put my username from pinterest in the "title" spot (there was no "username" spot).
Thank you, worked like a charm.
Hi nice Post written by you guys. It is amazing and wonderful to visit your site. Thank a ton for such a nice post.
Wow! I can't thank you enough for this!
Thank you for your help
why is this not working for me? do i delete the http// in the bar before I paste the code? sorry if this is a dumb question. Yes, I added my username where it said "USERNAME". Arrrrg.
@Anonymous
Don't remove anything, you want to copy the entire code.
I pasted the code a few months ago and it was working fine. Today I wanted to move where it was placed. I deleted and then copied and pasted again. The pin shows but not the count.
Do you know what might have happened? I have three friends on fb talking about the same thing, their count dissapeared.
Thanks!
Thank you, these directions are clear and to the point. Worked first time.
I added in my user name, but when I enter the code in blogger I either get a message that says "Url contains illegal characters" or "url must contain a host name". What could I be doing wrong?
@Kelly
Did you by any chance mistakenly click the "Add your own" link on the left side of Add A Gadget page?
What you want is to scroll down the page and click "HTML/JavaScript". It's the 11th item in the list.
Yes, that's what I was doing wrong- thanks so much!
Finally! I've looked everywhere on the internets for an easy to do button. I'm no coder so this was perfect. Thanks!
Thank you so much!!!
Hi, this was a well written tutorial but I see it was written a while ago. Do you know if Blogger has changed something on their end? When I go to layout, it doesn't give me the option to view it HTML. I can only view it in HTML from the template page and from there, I can't clearly find where I should past the code you provided. Any help you can give would be appreciated, my blog is all about Pinterest so I really need a Pin it button! www.pinorpass.blogspot.com
@Jennifer Calero
You paste the code into a HTML/Javascript widget/gadget, so there's no need to view your template HTML.
Gracias for sharing!!
This was great! I just started my blog and really appreciate the tips!
Thank you! I just started my blog and it was nice to see something I could do that was easy! :)

I tried this with my Wordpress blog, but I don't get a button. I only get text that you can click on. Is there some way to get the actual button?
OK, so great simple turtorial thanks, bot the button on there just fine.... except the button takes you to a pinterest board belonging to 'Kate'....... which seems very commercially driven, rather than my personal one.... help!!!??? Jenni
I got the follow button on my sidebar, but the link always goes to "Oops, Go Back" which goes to an overall view of Pinterest, but then I have to click on my face icon to go directly to my Pinterest. I don't understand!
Thank you for this html pinterest button. I have heard and seen a lot of bloggers use them. I am interested as to what pinterest can offer to my blog. Hope, I will get more traffic. Thank you.
@Carol
This is the correct code for your button, use this:
<a href="http://pinterest.com/casteb/"><img width="60" height="60" alt="Follow Me on Pinterest" src="http://s-passets-ec.pinimg.com/images/about/buttons/big-p-button.png"></a>

Most of them on the internet have such hard explanations for adding this icon! But you made it extremely simple and easy to follow. Thanks so much
Thank u so much for this info!
Hello !
Thank you very much for the explanation.
Tell me please, how can I add the button in order that the Pinterest will open as a new tab?
@Goldi
Add a target="_blank" attribute to the anchor (a) tag, like this:
<a href="http://pinterest.com/USERNAME/" target="_blank">
Awesome! super easy! I have no idea how code works but my button is there and I've even got it to open on a new page (thanks to your answer to Goldi!) now I've just got to get my blog going and full of posts!
Thanks so much. Why doesn't Pinterest have one that works on their website?
Hooray! Thank you, at last I have added the pin it button to my blog. After trying to follow several other tutorials which all failed, you gave good clear advice and it was done in minutes.
Thank you, that actually worked!!
Thank you for this tutorial! It was extremely helpful!
